Whether installing new flooring or planning an outdoor oasis, more homeowners are investing in smarter, substantial upgrades that boost comfort, functionality, and long-term value, according to Thumbtack's 2025 Spring and Summer Trends Report.
Based on nearly 6 million project requests, the report breaks down the most in-demand home projects on to-do lists this summer. Overall, the home services website found that more homeowners are investing in their current places—from full-scale remodels to backyard revamps—rather than moving. Here are the projects homeowners are prioritizing right now.
Rather than full-scale renovations, Thumbtack found that 61 percent of homeowners are focusing on just one or two rooms. Many are reimagining key living spaces like kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms, averaging $7,203 per project. These targeted updates also include interior painting, which averages $1,392, and lighting installations, with most projects involving replacing outdated fixtures.
Practical upgrades like installing flooring, especially in high-traffic areas like kitchens, living rooms, and entryways, are also rising. Thumbtack suggests looking into luxury vinyl planks and engineered hardwoods since they're scratch-resistant and tend to require less maintenance than traditional hardwood.
According to the report's findings, homeowners are focusing on easy ways to enhance their spaces, such as installing tile in their kitchens and living rooms, which costs $1,524 on average. This is a great way to add texture to a room, from geometric and marble tiles to rough stones and Moroccan zellige.
Creating accent walls is another popular summer project, with 47 percent of wallpaper projects focusing on a single wall, according to Thumbtack. This simple addition allows homeowners to refresh a space without needing additional décor.
Bathroom remodels continue to draw significant investment, averaging $5,259 per remodel. Nearly half of these projects involve complete transformations, while others focus on specific upgrades like new flooring and tile (19 percent) or cabinet and fixture enhancements (15 percent).
Not surprisingly, summertime means sprucing up the backyard. When it comes to landscaping, 51 percent of homeowners are focusing on larger projects or complete outdoor renovations like replacing soil or hardscaping, planting trees, or adding sprinkler systems. Deck and porch remodels or additions, concrete patio installations, and gazebo installations, which are averaging $3,468, $3,251, and $704, respectively, are also popular this time of year.
Installations for above-ground pools have surged 151 percent year-over-year, averaging $1,876 in price. The Thumbtack report found that hard-sided pools are the top choice by 58 percent due to their durability and appearance.
More homeowners want their outdoor space to feel like a vacation getaway with spa-like amenities. Hot tub and spa installations are up 125 percent, averaging $556, with above-ground hot tubs being the most popular, followed by saunas and in-ground spas.
According to Thumbtack, families are opting for playhouses, swings, and slides, with play equipment installations averaging $437. On the flip side, some mainstays of play are losing interest. Sandboxes and monkey bars are the least popular outdoor additions among families, making up less than 2 percent of projects on Thumbtack.
